Enamelling

The differences in colour, shape, size and texture represent singular properties that differentiate each tile.
A coloured liquid enamel is applied to the surface of each clay piece. The tile is fired in our ovens at very high temperatures of over 1,050 ºC. This enamelling process determines the colour and texture of the surface, resulting in strong, non-porous and waterproof tiles with a very low water absorption level.
Enamelled tiles are very easy to clean because any liquid that falls on their surface runs off quickly.

Tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of hand-made ceramic products and is considered part of the charm and unique nature of this type of craftwork. It is even possible for certain tiles from the same batch to have greater variation in colour tone. The enamel on replacement tiles may vary in thickness and, as a result, may have a darker or lighter appearance on some parts of the tile because we apply the enamel by hand and not using machines. The traditional craftwork found in each piece is therefore always highly visible.
